Mozilla director asks users to go to Bing

Says to leave google

War of the words aren’t just limited to Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities – the flaming happens even with honchos of tech giants like Google and Microsoft.

In a recent development, Asa Dotzler, who is the Director of Community Development of Mozilla asked users to leave Google and switch to Microsoft’s Bing search engine. Note that Mozilla is funded by Google, the search engine giant pumps in millions of dollars every year to Mozilla for development of their Firefox and other products like Thunderbird. So what exactly happened here?

It turns out, Dotzler wasn’t quite happy with Google CEO Eric Schmidt’s remarks about privacy. Schmidt had stated in his blog post that those truly scared about the revelation of their ‘wrongdoings’ are the only ones who care about privacy. Here’s the part of Schmidt’s speech: ‘If you have something that you don’t want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place. If you really need that kind of privacy, the reality is that search engines — including Google — do retain this information for some time and it’s important, for example, that we are all subject in the United States to the Patriot Act and it is possible that all that information could be made available to the authorities.’

Dotzler didn’t exactly find Schmidt’s little speech funny, and in retaliation showed in his blog post how to switch Firefox’s default search engine from Google to Bing. “Here’s how you can easily switch Firefox’s search from Google to Bing. (Yes, Bing does have a better privacy policy than Google.)” Dotzler wrote, with some of the test hyperlinked to the tutorial.

    I was just lookuping for this information for any while. Approximately two hrs of online researching, luckily I obtained it in your website. I do not understand why Bing dont exhibit this kind of resourceful internet sites in the first web page. Usually the leading websites are craps. Possibly it is time to alter to another research engine.
