You too are fans of the users of the popular social network Facebook? Well then you can not too miss the application we are going to present today!

We are talking about Facebook Desktop, a small application by which you can receive all the notifications of Facebook directly on your desktop with convenient pop-up, a bit like the case with live messenger short.

Facebook Desktop so it is ideal for all those who visit frequently to check their respective notifications and its messages.

The applicaion for Facebook Desktop is free and is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux.

It was developed using Adobe AIR, and its installation will have a ‘minimal impact on the performance of your PC!

Through the settings you can also decide whether the application should start when windows starts, it will have to show notifications for certain call, etc…

You are familiar with some platform, then you should carry them.

PortableApps is a free bundle application which will help you in managing the portable version of software in a flash drive. Once you install the “Portable Apps” (size ~ 35MB for light bundle ) in your flash drive, a pop-up will appear which will show you the list of portable software which you are carrying the flash drive

A portable app is a computer program that you can carry around with you on a portable device and use on any Windows computer. When your USB flash drive, portable hard drive, iPod or other portable device is plugged in, you have access to your software and personal data just as you would on your own PC. And when you unplug the device, none of your personal data is left behind.

Portable App Guidelines

A portable app works from any device (USB flash drive, portable hard drive, iPod, etc)

A portable app works as you move computers and your drive letter changes

A portable app’s features continue working as you move computers

A portable app doesn’t leave files or folders behind on the PC

A portable app doesn’t leave registry entries behind except those automatically generated by Windows

A portable app is optimized for use on removable drives

A portable app doesn’t require additional software on the PC

A portable app doesn’t interfere with software installed on the PC

Consider the Possibilities…

Carry your web browser with all your favorite bookmarks

Carry your calendar with all your appointments

Carry your email client with all your contacts and settings

Carry your instant messenger and your buddy list

Carry your whole office suite along with your documents and presentations

Carry your antivirus program and other computer utilities

Carry all your important passwords and account information securely

Consider the Convenience…

Have your favorite websites handy to recommend to a friend or colleague

Have your presentation AND the required software ready to go for that big meeting

Have utilities handy when visiting family or friends that are having PC problems

List of few application

Windows Phone 7 is a completely new mobile operating system, built from the ground up and not resembling its clunky predecessor, Windows Mobile 6.5, in the slightest. After just a few minutes playing with a fully functional Windows Phone 7 device, we were left impressed.

What we liked
The user interface of Microsoft Windows Phone 7 is completely different to anything currently on the market. It’s made up of large tiles that can be organised in any way you wish; tiles can be “pinned” to the home screen, and the default tiles can be removed. You can simply press and hold a tile to move it around the screen.

The tiles offer a refreshing look and feel, with large text and live images. For example, the “People” tile — a centralised hub for multiple forms of communication with contacts — will display live photos of the last few people you’ve interacted with. There’s no limit to the number of tiles you can pin to the home screen, so it can be as long or as short as you want.

Once you open one of Windows Phone 7′s default “hubs” (People, Pictures, Games, Music, Video, Marketplace, Office), the UI utilises a panorama-style view. Slide left and right to browse through the panorama; for example, the People hub consists of a list of those you’ve had recent contact with, all of your contacts and a What’s New list that integrates real-time Facebook and Windows Live updates.

One thing we noticed was how smooth the entire experience is. Whether it is scrolling through tiles on the home screen, opening applications, or performing basic tasks such as dialling a phone number or typing a text message, the interface feels fresh, zippy and completely natural. It’s a completely the opposite experience to using previous Windows phones, which were often rightly accused of having clunky, lag-ridden interfaces. The Windows Phone 7 UI even makes the iPhone and Google Android interfaces feel slightly dated.

The on-screen keyboard is excellent. We found it more comfortable and accurate in landscape mode, but it works well in portrait mode too. The keys are well spaced and make a soothing clicking sound when pressed, while the built-in spell corrector allows you to tap on a word to bring up a list of suggested words.

Instead of a regular contact list, Microsoft has gone the whole hog and opted for an optimised “People” hub. You simply enter your Facebook, Windows Live ID and other e-mail accounts (the OS naturally supports Microsoft Exchange e-mail) and it automatically grabs your contact list and keeps them updated in real time. Conveniently, you can choose to add all your Facebook contacts to your people hub, or simply add Facebook info for the existing contacts you already have. Facebook status updates, e-mails, calls, messages and IMs all appear in this single People hub, and you can also pin the tile of an individual to your home screen for quick access.

Being a Windows Phone, the OS naturally comes with the full OneNote Office mobile suite, including applications to create, view and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.

What we didn’t like
Despite all the positives, there are a number of issues with Windows Phone 7, headed by the lack of a copy and paste function. We expect this to eventually be added, but it is definitely a disappointing omission.

Windows Phone 7 also has no support for third-party app multitasking — Microsoft says that the reason for this is to preserve performance. (This is something that the company is all too familiar with considering it was a huge issue in Windows Mobile 6.5) While we can understand the reasoning, it remains disappointing.

One omission that is definitely not understandable is the lack of integrated Twitter support. The social-networking site is extremely popular and many Google Android smartphones have integrated Twitter access, including HTC’s Sense UI (as seen on the HTC Desire and HTC Wildfire smartphones). Twitter seems like a perfect fit for Windows Phone 7′s People hub, so we’re not sure why it hasn’t been included.
Microsoft Windows Phone 7 devices are expected to hit the shelves before Christmas, possibly as soon as October. Are you tempted to switch from your iPhone, Android or BlackBerry smartphone?

Google Voice—a service that’s like a supercharged telephone number that you can use from your cell phone, smartphone, or from Gmail—is gaining traction, offering features that are either unavailable with other phone numbers or available only at a fee.

There is, though, a bit of bad news—at least for some. Currently, Google Voice is only available in the US.

However, the internet is full of workarounds for international users who sign up for the service via virtual private networks (VPN). And once a number is procured , the service can be used freely.

Moreover, Google plans to roll out Voice internationally . The only question is when.
But whether you get Google Voice now or in the near future, it’s likely to make you rethink your current phone setup —or , at the least, to provide you with some attractive, free options for enhancing how you use your existing lines. So what can the telephony product do for you?

AGGREGATE PHONE NUMBERS

Anyone who juggles multiple phone lines and hates missing calls will love Google Voice. Once you have a Google Voice phone number, you can set it up so that any calls you receive on the service will automatically ring all of your other telephones, acting as a real-time call-forwarding system. If there’s a telephone nearby, you’ll get the call.

INTELLIGENT VOICEMAIL

Google Voice takes voicemail to a new level, thanks to a number of features that will be a boon to those frequently playing voicemail phone-tag.

One feature allows you to set up personalised greetings for particular callers or particular types of callers.
So, for instance, you might want to set up a fairly formal greeting for business associates, while friends and family would hear a whimsical voicemail message , complete with music and sound effects.

Even more useful, however, is Google Voice’s ability to transcribe voicemail messages into text. With this enabled, you could automatically receive an email transcription of a voicemail message while you’re in a meeting.

You’ll also have an instant record of all voicemail messages received—thanks to Google Voice’s integration with Gmail—and you can easily forward a voicemail message by email as well.

The transcription capability in Google Voice is a transformative feature that might make you say goodbye to listening to voicemail messages the usual way, and it works surprisingly well.

CALL SCREENING

For anyone who hates the peremptory nature of carry-everywhere cell phones and smartphones , Google’s call-screening feature will be welcome. With it, you can preview who is calling and then determine whether to answer the phone or send the person directly to voicemail. The choice is one-touch simple.

Voice also makes it easier than traditional phone services to block particular callers. Can’t seem to shake pesky calls from a business or acquaintance? Just select the record of the calls in Gmail, and follow the instructions for blocking unwanted calls.

USING GOOGLE VOICE

Once you’ve set up a Google Voice number, there are multiple ways that you can use it. Firstly, it is available as an internet-based application, through your Gmail or iGoogle account, with a simple and clear interface.

In this sense it’s very much a competitor of Skype, which up to now had pretty much locked up the internet telephony market.

Skype still has the edge over Google Voice in some ways. In particular, there’s no video conferencing feature in Google, whereas in Skype, oneon-one video calls are easy and fun.

Google Voice’s conferencing feature – which requires adding additional callers to your current call as the calls come – is arguably less friendly than Skype’s as well.

But Google Voice’s crowning achievement is that it can be used from most smartphones—removing you from the need to be at your computer to make or receive calls and potentially cutting down drastically on your cell phone bill.

BlackBerry, Android, and Nokia users can point their phone’s browser to m.google.com/search to get the right version of Google Voice installed on their phone. iPhone users need to get Google Voice from iTunes.

Once installed on your smartphone, though, most of what makes Google Voice worth having is available at your fingertips, no matter where you are. That’s why, once fully rolled out, Google Voice may just be the next must-have app for the masses.

The first beta of Firefox 4 for Android arrived Thursday, offering users of Google’s mobile operating system a browser interface with both smart new features and some weaknesses.

I tried the new beta on HTC’s Google Nexus One, and I came away impressed overall–far more satisfied than with unstable and slower nightly builds for developers that I’d tried before. It’s not going to be my default phone browser at this stage, but I’m not going to uninstall it, either.

Fennec background
Before we get to my impressions, though, here’s the background. Mozilla is trying to reach the fast-growing and increasingly important mobile world with its “Fennec” version of Firefox. Android is the second operating system it supports after Maemo, which comes with Nokia’s N900, which is as much a small computer as smartphone.

Today, that market is dominated by browsers based on the open-source WebKit project, including those built into iOS, Android, WebOS, and Bada browsers and coming with BlackBerry OS.

Android is critical to Mozilla’s mobile effort: with Apple blocking typical browsers for iOS devices, Google’s operating system is the best remaining avenue to mainstream mobile relevance.

Unlike most Android applications, Firefox is native software that runs on the underlying Linux operating system and ARM processor rather than Android’s higher-level Java-like foundation (now the subject of Oracle’s lawsuit against Google). That native nature means Firefox compatibility is a more finicky issue: you’ll have to check the supported devices list, which so far includes four tested phones and five untested.

Firefox, which needs Android 2.0 or later, is feature-packed. It uses the same browser engine as regular Firefox and therefore supports cutting-edge Web technologies such as Canvas and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) for 2D graphics, Web workers for background processing, and HTML5′s built-in audio and video. It can run many add-ons, a differentiator in the mobile-browsing world. And it’s got the new JaegerMonkey JavaScript engine, which was powerful enough to run the full desktop version of Gmail in my tests.

Three advantages over Android
Three things jumped out at me as superior to Android’s built-in browser, which by the way I’m using on a phone with Android 2.2, aka Froyo.
First, there’s Firefox Sync. This lets you keep open tabs, browsing history, passwords, and bookmarks synchronized between whatever computers and mobile devices you have running Firefox. In practice, I’m not sure I want to inflict on my mobile phone the dozens of tabs I have openon my personal computers, but passwords sync in particular is a wonderful way to bypass the mobile-phone difficulties of Web page login pages.

Second, there’s the superior window management. The native browser lets you move among windows by clicking Android’s menu button and going to a window-selection screen.

I much prefer Firefox’s approach. The tabs are in a vertically stacked list that’s tucked away to the left of the browser window. You can reach it by sliding the main window off to the right with an easy drag gesture. It’s set up nicely so you don’t do this inadvertently.

A vulnerability in Java technology could be exploited by attackers and used to compromise computers running Windows if they visit a Web page hosting malicious code, two researchers warned on Friday.

Google engineer Tavis Ormandy released details on the Full Disclosure e-mail list and Ruben Santamarta, an engineer for Wintercore, wrote about it on his company’s blog site.

The problem is with the Java Web Start framework, which allows developers an easy way to create Java applications. Disabling the Java plug-in will not protect against an attack, according to Ormandy.

“The toolkit provides only minimal validation of the URL parameter, allowing us to pass arbitrary parameters to the javaws [Java Web Start] utility, which provides enough functionality via command line arguments to allow this error to be exploited,” Ormandy wrote. “The simplicity with which this error can be discovered has convinced me that releasing this document is in the best interest of everyone except the vendor.”

The vulnerability affects all current versions of Windows and the major browsers including Firefox, Internet Explorer and Chrome, according to Kaspersky Lab’s Threat Post blog.

Ormandy said he informed Sun about the problem but was told it was not considered high enough priority to issue a patch outside of the regular quarterly patch cycle.

Representatives at Oracle, which recently acquired Sun Microsystems, did not respond to a phone call and e-mails seeking comment late on Friday.

By no means are Twitter and Facebook perfect: You might wish that Facebook made it more intuitive to hide FarmVille or certain status updates. Or, maybe you wish that Twitter would introduce a new feature like nested tweets. Good news: For many of these website tweaks or suggestions, there’s likely to be a script you can download to fit the bill.

Here are my top eight picks for Facebook and Twitter add-ons. Many of these solve common user gripes (such as not knowing to what site shortened URLs will bring you on Twitter). Some, like “Facebook Fixer,” enhance the site and allow you to customize it beyond standard options. Do note that most of these scripts require that you first download Greasemonkey, and not all are compatible with every browser, so be sure to check the requirements before you download a script.

1. Facebook Fixer.

This script lets you customize your Facebook account and offers many features that are enabled by default, but can be enabled or disabled independently. Some of these features include: larger profile and album pictures; homepage customization where you can hide independent sections such as pokes, suggestions and “connect with friends”; and calendar integration, which includes a link on each profile that synchs birthdays with Google Calendar, or the option to export a file with all your friends’ birthdays, which can be imported into sites such as Google Calendar, Yahoo, Apple iCal, Microsoft Outlook and more.

2. Facebook Purity.

The Facebook Purity script cleans up your homepage and removes all newsfeed items from third-party games such as Mafia Wars and FarmVille, and zaps announcements on who’s become friend with who, who’s attending a certain event, who joined a group and who became a fan of something. Optional items you can block include: comments on a status, photo, photo album or link; tags in a photo or photo album; and event postings.

3. Unfriend Finder.

Ever wonder if you’ve been dropped by a Facebook friend? Every time you log in, the script checks to see if someone is missing from your friend list. When the script detects someone is no longer your friend, you get a notification and a bubble counter in the Facebook toolbar. There are two types of “unfriends:” Either you removed them from your friend list or they removed you (but they’re still on Facebook), or they deactivated their account and are no longer on Facebook. If they reactivate their account, you’ll also be notified.

4. No Facebook Ads.

If you’re tired of the age-targeted ads Facebook runs, take advantage of this script. Downloading it will remove ads from your Facebook account-including flyer ads, network ads, bumper ads-leaving its appearance a lot cleaner.

5. TinyURL Decoder.

While URL shorteners do save space on Twitter, you’re often clicking at your own risk-phishing scams and spam-laden direct messages are becoming more and more common on the microblogging site. This script decodes the shortened URLs on Twitter’s website and displays the original URL, so you can decide whether or not to click.

6. Nested Twitter Replies.

Twitter’s website still only allows you to view @replies in a list, which can be confusing if you’re trying to follow a conversation. Applying this script automatically displays tweets in a nested conversation format, making it easier to follow.

7. @Troynt’s Twitter Script.

This Twitter script does it all. Among its many features: expansion of Links in tweets; inline inclusion of YouTube videos and Twitpic images; nested tweets; option to save, reply to or retweet a tweet when you hover over it; autocompletion of a username when you begin typing “@” in a tweet and much more.

8. Twitter Old Style RT Emulator.

If you hate Twitter’s retweet button and long for the old method, this script will convert all retweet symbols and user pictures into “RT @username.” Note that this script only works in Safari and Firefox.

Sony is readying itself to roll out an update to current PlayStation 3 games console owners to allow them to take advantage of the new Full HD 3D TVs and 3D programming that are about to launch.

“PS3 users worldwide will only need to upgrade the PS3 system software via the internet and there is no need to repurchase the system to enjoy 3D games,” said Nainan Shah, vice-president of new platform, planning and development at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, the branch of Sony under which the PlayStation falls.

Next month, Sky will launch its 3D schedule while BSkyB and others have also announced plans to provide 3D programming in the coming months. Sony says that the PS3 console requires only an over-the-air update in order to enable 3D, since the necessary HDMI port is already present and the console uses the Cell processor. No additional outlay is required by the console owner.

The same processor is found in Toshiba’s cutting-edge Cell TV. The Cell processor is important, says Sony, because of its ability to use software to decode images. Updated software will therefore be capable of decoding new formats.

In December, Sony Computer Entertainment announced that it will release stereoscopic 3D games titles for PS3 in conjunction with Sony’s 3D TV launch timing this year. It will also actively support software developers and publishers, providing technological information to develop stereoscopic 3D games and content, Sony announced at a briefing in Tokyo.

“Sony’s plans to upgrade existing PS3 consoles to 3D will provide a major boost to the 3D market during 2010,” commented David Mercer of Strategy Analytics when Sony unveiled its 3D PS3 ambitions. “This could quickly create a worldwide installed base of more than 30 million 3D-capable games consoles and confirm the PS3 as a platform positioned for the next generation of console games.”

The big driver for 3D will be this year’s Fifa World Cup in South Africa, which kicks off on 12 June. Most TV manufacturers will have 3D TVs onsale well before this. Several are also looking to offer ways to allow existing customers to enjoy 3D TV programming and are whetting their appetites by offering 2D-to-3D upgrade packs.

In its monthly advance notification, Microsoft spelled out next week’s two-update Patch Tuesday, a far cry from February’s massive roll-out of 13 security bulletins that fixed 26 flaws. (See “Top 10 Security Nightmares of the Decade.”)

The downturn was not unexpected. “This is indicative of the on and off cycle that Microsoft uses,” said Andrew Storms, director of security operations at nCircle Network Security. “Last month was more OS related, this month they’re patching some applications.”

March traditionally is a slow patch month for Microsoft, Storms noted, just as February has historically been big. In March 2009, for example, Microsoft issued three bulletins, while in March 2008, it delivered four.

Both bulletins will be pegged as “important,” Microsoft’s second-highest severity rating in its four-step scoring system. The vulnerabilities in those two updates, however, allow attackers to insert malicious code onto unpatched PCs, a fact that at first glance may seem contrary to Microsoft’s less-than-critical ranking.

“When Microsoft rates something ‘important’ but also says the vulnerability allows for remote code execution, that usuallly means there’s some default state that would mitigate attacks for all users,” said Storms. That state, he continued, could be a default setting that protects users, or the fact that the vulnerability is contained in a component that’s not loaded by default.

The first bulletin will address one or more vulnerabilities in Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, and affects the most recent service packs for XP and Vista, SP3 and SP2, respectively. Both 32- and 64-bit editions of all three operating systems harbor the bugs, according to the terse description in Microsoft’s notice.

The second will quash one or more bugs in Excel 2002, Excel 2003 and Excel 2007 on Windows; Excel 2004 and Excel 2008 on the Mac; and other Excel- and file-conversion-related pieces of the Office suites. Storms pointed out that the patch will even repair the version of Excel in Office 2007 SP2. “It’s the latest and greatest that’s being patched,” said Storms, adding that clues in the notice point toward a file format problem, most likely one in the file converter tool bundled with Office.
