Continuing its tradition of April Fool’s hoaxes Google unveiled another ‘new feature’. This time for its popular email service, Gmail. The new fabricated Gmail feature is called Gmail Motion.

According to Google, Gmail Motion is the company’s “first attempts at next generation human computer interaction.” Users will be able to control Gmail without the aid of a keyboard or mouse. Messages can be composed and replied to using only the human body.

Never the one to miss out on the little technical details, Google has put up detailed videos explaining how the thing works and have also posted a motion graph, to explain which body actions can perform what functions on Gmail as well as some safety precautions. That’s not all, Google also announced that it was bringing Gmail Motion to Google Docs later in the year.

But unlike some of its previous All Fools Day hoxes, Google reveals the plot a bit too soon. The joke is revealed soon after a user clicks on the ‘Try Gmail Motion’ button.

Google’s history of April 1 jokes can be traced back to 2000 when they announced the launch of MentalPlex, when Google asked its users to focus on a swirling spiral and project a mental image of what they wanted to search for and the results page displayed humourous error messages.

MentalPlex was followed by PigeonRank, where Google claimed that it used pigeons for its PageRank system. Other notable Google’s April Fool pranks include Google Gulp, Gmail Paper and Google TiSP.

Google also had a number of non-hoaxes on April 1. The biggest was the Gmail launch in 2004, something that many had thought to be a hoax.

Continuing with the trend to showcase new doodles on search engine’s home page, Google is here with a nice doodle on occasion of Harry Houdini’s 137’th birthday. Harry was an American magician born March 24, 1874 in Hungary. He was also a noted escapologist, stunt performer, actor and producer. He was popular for his thrilling acts in escaping.

We use Google every day to find all sorts of information, therefore, folks from Google are doing their best to enhance their number one search engine. Google has released another enhancement that will allow you to find release dates easier than before.

In order to search the release date of a particular game or a movie, you just need to type the name of the game or movie along with “release date” and Google will show you the release date of that particular item at the top of your results, so you won’t have to visit any sites to get additional info.

Of course, if you want to verify this information on your own, Google will inform you on how many sites this particular release date is mentioned, and it can even show you sources and direct links to these sites so you can visit them and read additional info on your own.

Although release date guessing isn’t anything spectacular, it can make our lives and searches a bit easier, and currently it only works with movies and video games, unfortunately not for predicting when iPhones or iPads may arrive.

Google Doodle Holi 2011

The Google Holi Doodle 2011, show the true sense of the festivity of Colour

Google launched doodle for Holi 2011. Last year also Google had its doodle based on the colourful theme of Holi festival. This year the doodle has the background of pink, yellow, green, blue, and dark pink holi spray colors and Google has its name in white color.

As of now, the availability of Google Chrome 10.0.648.82 is as a beta channel release for Mac OS X, Linux, and Windows. In comparison to its Chrome 9 stable channel version, Google asserts that the new version has a capability to deliver 66% faster JavaScript performance.

The new Chrome version includes an introductory implementation of GPU acceleration for video, addition of support for password synchronization across multiple computers as well as opening of its Preferences menu interface in a separate tab.

The appeal of Google Chrome goes far away from speed. Other factors are also allowing Google’s Browser to capture global market share of over 10%. Google is planning to develop an OS around its browser. The plus point for the influential developer audience is that Chrome users can depend on being able to test with cutting edge Google projects like Native Client.

Chrome will be facing competition further too with the release of Microsoft’s IE9 and Firefox 4 speculated in coming months. Google, as of now is pushing Web technology and is making it certain that the browser developers get no rest.

Google has released a doodle for Cricket World Cup 2011 which is just started in Bangladesh. Cricket World Cup happens once in 4 years and this time it is happening in South Asia i.e. India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. There are total 14 countries participating in this tournament and the final match is scheduled for April 2, 2011 and venue is Mumbai, India.

To celebrate the event, Google has added a new Google Doodle representing cricket. The ICC World Cup Google Doodle features a batsman hitting  a ball. It would have been much nicer if they could somehow include a bowler too. The Doodle is viewable at http://www.google.co.in.

If you were not able to watch the live streaming of Honeycomb launch event yesterday, Google has posted the entire event video online for you. This video will give you the first hand information about the tablet OS along with app demos.

One of the biggest announcements of today’s Google Android press conference is new online-accessible Android Market website and the new way of how apps are going to be purchased.

The idea behind the new Android Market website is to allow people to browse apps from anywhere and not be limited only to the Market app on their phones. In other words, Google is getting up to speed with Apple’s own AppStore.

The entire Android market is available online and the process of purchasing an app is made pretty simple and straight forward. After an app is purchased or simply picked for installing (if it’s a free one), and within seconds your phone would automatically start the download process. Now that’s pretty cool and beats Apple’s system hand’s down.

Also you can now share a link from the Web Market to a friend of an application you’ve liked via twitter or email, which is also neat.

With the latest SDK, which will be available sometime in the end of March, developers can add in-app payments, allowing them to offer new app features or new game levels directly from the app.

Google will be making changes to its search service over the next few months in order to fight copyright infringement.

Although Google can provide us with all sorts of useful information, it can also be used for finding illegal files as well, and this is one reason why Google decided to fight back against piracy.

So how will Google fight against piracy? Well, Google hasn’t removed any of the controversial topics from its search index, but it has decided to makesearch for those illegal files a bit harder than before. In order to fight against piracy Google decided to remove all piracy related keywords such as BitTorrent, Rapidshare and other similar topics from its autocompletefeature. However, those keywords will still appear in auto-complete feature, but only if you type the whole phrase into the search bar.

This won’t stop the piracy, but it will definitely make search of pirated material a slightly more difficult than before. However, it seems that the only way to fight against piracy is to censor the autocomplete feature.
