Much like the aliens, everyone talks about those white iPhone 4s, but no one has actually seen them. Well perhaps Apple has finally managed to find a workaround to whatever problems have troubled the production so far and will actually try and ship some of them.

The bad news is that the rumor comes from a screenshot of the inventory system of Vodafone Germany so it might end up being just another false alarm. Both the 16GB and 32GB versions are listed so an accidental mistake doesn’t sound like it. However it may as well be a deliberate error to generate some publicity.

Still we are willing to give this one the benefit of doubt as it corroborates with Apple’s last statement that the white iPhone 4 will be available in early 2011. Plus, we’re expecting an Apple press conference in the end of this month.

In other news, the iPhone 5 is said to come with a new A5 home-baked chipset, which should seriously bump up the graphic performance of the platform not only in games but in video playback too. Curious developers have found a driver for the dual-core PowerVR SGX543 graphics chip in the latest iOS 4.3 developer’s beta firmware.

A woman in Norway wandering in the icy cold -14°C weather took out her iPhone and saw that the cold had taken a heavy toll on it. The phone was shattered beyond repair. She took it to the Apple Store but the Apple Geniuses refused to repair it saying that iPhone isn’t designed for extreme temperatures. And that means below freezing and above 35°C. 35 Degree Celsius! Isn’t that a bit too low for extreme heat! When I had the iPhone, it worked perfectly up to 45 °C and never caused any trouble due to heating up.

Anyway as a warning if you are travelling to places with extreme weather anytime soon, it will be safer to leave your iPhone home. Unless you want to see it break down.

In the 3rd quarter, Apple sold 3.47 million Macs which was a 33% increase YoY. They also sold 8.4 million iPhone which was a 61% growth over iPhone sales from same quarter last year. Apple also sold 3.27 million iPad during this period and 9.41 million iPods including iPod Touch.

“It was a phenomenal quarter that exceeded our expectations all around, including the most successful product launch in Apple’s history with iPhone 4,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPad is off to a terrific start, more people are buying Macs than ever before, and we have amazing new products still to come this year.”

Steve Jobs hinted that there will be more amazing new products coming this year, which is basically the new line of iPod Touch devices with 5MP camera and FaceTime which is expected in September and may also include other new products in the iPod family. The new devices may also include new Macs too.

Overall Apple generated over $4 billion cash during the quarter and are expecting about $18 billion revenue in the 4th quarter. This is definitely a good quarter for Apple and with the iPhone 4 just launched it would add to their revenue coffers.

Rumors that Bing was to be the default search engine in an upcoming iPhone OS update can continue to be filed in the rumor bin, at least based on the developer preview release of OS 4.0.

Bing is still nowhere to be seen in the iPhone’s Safari app, or anywhere else in the preview version of the OS. Besides Google, which remains the default search engine, the only other option remains Yahoo.

It’s still possible that the Apple/Microsoft deal could be under way though. And if that’s the case, it could just as easily make it into a future beta of the OS, or in the version that will be made available to iPhone owners sometime this summer.

One interesting change worth noting is that Web searches are now more ingrained into the system search that was implemented in OS 3.0. Now, when doing a local search on your phone, the iPhone will spit up quick links for Web and Wikipedia searches using Safari. This could place more importance on whatever search engine you’re using as the default.

During Thursday’s event, Apple CEO Steve Jobs went into detail on how search was largely a paradigm of desktop computing, but these changes could very well be the first inklings that the iPhone is getting a system search tool that is more integrated with the Web, as competitor Google has done on its Android OS.

In the meantime, iPhone owners who are looking to get a hearty dose of Bing can download Microsoft’s native iPhone app, which was released in December.

Rumors of the iPhone coming to Verizon Wireless may have some consumers in the U.S. wondering about resulting cost savings for the device. But will more competition really mean lower prices?

Six months after the iPhone market opened up in the United Kingdom for the iPhone, prices have only dipped slightly. But compared to prices from AT&T, the iPhone’s exclusive carrier in the U.S., Brits are still getting a much better deal than Americans.

When Apple announced its exclusive contract for the iPhone with O2 Wireless was expiring in the U.K. last September, the British press was almost giddy at the prospect of a price war.

“Orange’s success in breaking into O2′s exclusive deal to stock the iPhone is expected to lead to a Christmas price war with the cost of the Apple handset coming down for U.K. consumers,” the Guardian newspaper wrote on its technology blog in September 2009.

But Orange resisted temptation to spark an iPhone price war. Instead, the company decided to match O2 in price in many tiers of service. Vodafone, another major wireless operator in the U.K, began offering the iPhone in January 2010. And it, too, kept prices in sync with O2 and Orange. Discounts, even modest ones, didn’t appear until Tesco, a major supermarket chain in the UK, started offering the iPhone.

A portable version of the popular fighting game Street Fighter 4 with lesser number of characters is headed to iPhone/iPod Touch and will hit the App Store next month. It will not contain all the players of the console version though, the characters available will be Ryu, Blanka, Chun-li, Dhalsim, Ken, M.Bison, Guile and Abel.
